Dining Out at Dean Casmirri’s Colonial Inn

The Colonial Inn sits on top of a hill overlooking beautiful trees and waterfall from the Neshaminy Creek. Now that its fall, leaves are of different color and it’s just a breathtaking sight. Located at 11 Beaver Street, in Hulmeville Pa, just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of the highway. When you come here for whatever pleasure, whether it be to have a few beers with your buds & watch your favorite Sports Team, sing Karaoke every Tuesday & Saturday night, or be entertained by live music on Wednesday & Thursday night, and DJ music every Saturday night, or try your hand at pool or just sit down to an awesome lunch or dinner – Dean Casmirri hit the jackpot with this place! It has two floors, one with the bar and restaurant and the top floor is the game room. There are several big screen televisions throughout. On nice cool days you can sit out on their deck or outdoor patio and just enjoy the scenery.

On this particular night I met up with Dean, owner, who was an absolute gentleman. He was friendly as was his staff, Duffy, the Bartender, Cheryl, the Waitress, and Bob the Chef. Dean shared that most of his employees have been with him for years some for more than 20 years, following him from his father’s place on Hulmeville Rd to his new venture-the Colonial Inn, which he took over and renovated over the summer. Impressive- no wonder this place had a great crowd mid-week. And the customers seemed as pleased as I was with the staff’s friendliness, great service and let’s not forget about the delicious food!

The food here is very affordable and they offer an array of appetizers like Creamy Crab Au Gratin and Fried Buffalo Chicken Ravioli to name a few. Soups include French Onion, Creamy Crab soup and their soup of the day. There is an assortment of salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and entrees—ALL HOME-MADE! I started out with the Cream of Broccoli soup. It was sweet, creamy and full of broccoli chunks. For an appetizer I tried the Oriental Sesame Wings, fried and tossed in a sweet teriyaki sauce. These wings were so good they were like candy in my mouth- The BEST I have ever tasted! And for just $7.99 you get 10 of them! For my entrée I decided to try something new. Although there were many wonderful choices like Veal & Chicken Parmesan, Roasted Turkey, Chicken Pot Pie, Hawaiian Coconut Shrimp, Maryland Crab Cakes and so much more! I was delighted by my meal of Fresh Salmon Encrusted in Almonds, in a light chardonnay reduction sauce with a touch of orange zest. The taste of the Salmon was tantalizing and memorable! It came with smashed potatoes, corn, and fresh baked rolls-the portions were so large that I had to take half of it home with me to enjoy the next day. Lucky me! This meal was only $13.99! Entrees range from $8.99 to $13.99, Sandwiches and burgers (1/2 lb. Fresh USDA Beef) start at around $7.00 and come with their awesome hand-cut French fries too! I say kudos to Chef Bob, to Dean and to the rest of his staff who made this visit a pleasure. This place is a must go to-for great food, friendly conversations and an all-around great time!

And best of all Dean Casmirri’s Colonial Inn is open every day of the week-Monday to Friday from 3pm until 2am and Saturday & Sunday from 12pm-2am. They also specialize in Indoor and Outdoor Catering for more information please call (215) 752- 9878 or visit their website at www.deanscolonial.com
