Adam Ant is larger than life

He is the master of striking a

pose and gives new meaning to

energy and stage demand. I was

fortunate enough with my busy

schedule to catch Adam Ant at

the Keswick Theater on Tuesday

February 21st. I will admit that

he is one of my favorite artists. I

still think that the title track from

the 1995 release wonderful is

truly one of the most underrated

songs. Adam offers a glorious

night of glitz, glam and brilliance

and is still very much a performer

at the age of 62. Since 2010,

Ant has undertaken an inten-

sive reactivation of his musical

career, performing live regularly

in his hometown of London and

beyond, recording and releas-

ing a new album and complet-

ing three full-length UK national

tours, two US national tours, and

an Australian tour. Enter 2017

and I loved every minute from

walking through the door at 7:30

PM to the final encore. Adam

moved from one song to the next

without a problem, and interacted

with the crowd and seemed to

just have fun. His voice was

crisp and tight and his guitar

playing just as good as it was in

the 80’s. Adam Ant is celebrat-

ing the 35th anniversary of the

release of his legendary “Kings

of the Wild Frontier” album with

a remastered reissue and a world

tour to celebrate. Adam play’s the

classic album in its entirety and

in sequence while capturing the

live sound by incorporating two

drummers into his band, a musi-

cal signature that remains to this

day. In addition to remastering

the classic album, Adam person-

ally designed the deluxe box

set that includes items from his

extensive personal archive and

a bonus DVD of the out-of-print

“Ants In Japan” concert video.

The platinum album, originally

released in 1980, crowned the UK

Album Chart and spent more time

in the top position than any other

album at the time. The album

went on to achieve worldwide

recognition and produced mas-

sive chart-topping singles includ-

ing the classic “Antmusic”, the

breakthrough tribal onslaught of

“Dog Eat Dog” and the epic title

track. In Australia, the “Antmusic”

single spent five weeks at #1 on

the charts. Adam Ant, aka Stuart

Leslie Goddard, has had one of

the most illustrious careers of

the post punk, fantasy-oriented

New Romantic movement of the

early 1980s. The band consisted

of Andy Woodard and Jola on

drums, William Crewdson on

guitar and Joe Holweger on bass

guitar. This was a rescheduled

show from January 26th as Tom

Edwards, 41, who was also Ant’s

musical director and guitarist,

died at Kennedy Hospital in Cher-

ry Hill a day before the scheduled

show. The cause of death is

suspected to be heart failure. The

crowd in the room was of mixed

generations and many were in full

makeup and dressed with Adam’s

headgear for the occasion. Heads

were bobbing and feet were mov-

ing so on point that the venue

seemed to light up with energy

once he entered the stage. There

are some artists that just have

“it” and Adam Ant is one of those

artists. When you hear him speak

you can see that the talent is

overwhelming and the brilliance is

alive. He is a must see.
