DSC_0077DJ KayJay a.k.a. Kristin Jackson is the sexy and seductive pride of Baltimore, Maryland. She started her career in the modeling world. After being featured in several Playboy issues, it was time for her to turn her attention to her true love for music. KayJay has always expressed a passion for music and an interest in playing to large crowds.

Since then, KayJay has been traveling from one event to the next bringing her one of a kind beats, videos, vigorous style and enthusiastic stage presence to the party. This video DJ feels a crowd and gives them exactly what they want and more as she takes it to a new level. Whether it’s mixing hip-hop with rock or even 80’s, while throwing in some commercial house or old school, Kristen seems to always have things under control.

On this awesome night, I got to spend a few hours with DJ KayJay at CLUB 27 in Old City Philadelphia. Standing only 5 feet 2 inches, Kristin is a power house of energy with a stunning stage presence. She looked like a very seductive Playboy model, with a sexy outfit as she was pulling off the Britney Spears or Lady Gaga look. The warm embrace that she wrapped around me sent chills up my spine as I tried to maintain my true professionalism.

CLUB 27 was 3 floors of total craziness with 5 separate rooms and 5 bars serving over 1,200 people. The line went straight down Bank Street from their front door, almost hitting Market Street. The fine staff made me and my people feel very welcome.

Like most of her performances, see took this club to an all new level as the building was vibrating to her heavy bass beats. DJ KayJay was stunning, amazing, electric, funny and just beautiful. She is one super model video disc jockey. Can you believe that this Playboy super model listens to Classic Rock when not spinning her mixes? She enjoys Philly so much, but with her crazy schedule is unable to hit our fine city more often. I found out that Kristen also personally updates and answers all of her myspace messages as well as her website e-mails.

For more information on DJ KayJay or to see her in person, please go to: www.djkayjay.com or catch up with her on myspace at: www.myspace.com/kristin_jackson

l_2ee409d71c5d412e8855906e436107ccGrowing up in the 80’s was a great time for me, as I am sure it was for many. It was a time of constant fun, parties and MUSIC. Not just any old music though. If you grew up in the 80’s you know what I mean. The launch of Hair Bands and Arena rock was huge and it just took over that decade. It was electric, big production, neon lights with leopard tights, all about sex and good times. Ahhh, those were the days!

If you are craving a true flashback to the 80’s, then all you need to do is take a look at Philly band, Mane Attraction. Now here is a band dedicated to a cause and it’s not just music…but we’ll get to that in a minute! This band puts on that full production with the bright lights, big hair, leather pants and vintage instruments and they play the party anthems we all love to sing along to by bands such as Def Leppard, Cinderalla, Poison, Dokken, Judas Priest and many others. As lead guitarist, Butch puts it “Our shows are totally over the top, obnoxious yet lots of fun. We want to give everyone a chance to relive the 80’s or to experience what it was like.” I asked Butch what Mane Attraction does differently than some of the other bands out there who also offer a trip back to the 80’s and his answer was “Our approach. We want to give the audience a show that is worth more than their cover’s worth and that is why we make sure our shows are always high energy, quick paced and we play songs that everyone loves to scream and head-bang along to.” All the members in this band lived through the 80’s, so they know what people want. They did a lot of research by checking out other arena rock style bands to see what songs they would do in order to get that “Wow” factor and Mane Attraction is following that same path of giving people exactly what they want. Their stage presence is something you won’t soon forget between the costuming, back drops and song choices, you really feel like you’ve gone back in time to an 80’s hair band concert.

The band is 5 members: Shakey on lead vocals, Butch and Paul who both play lead and rhythm guitar, Bones on bass guitar and Joe on drums. They have been together now for 6 months and are already playing some great rooms in the area like JT’s Philadelphia House, The Beehive Pub in NJ and Cazz’s Sports Bar in Levittown. They have also been doing some charity events including Toys for Tots and several Veteran organizations and recently spearheaded a campaign to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. If you go to the Mane Attraction website at www.myspace.com/maneattractionband you can purchase a “Rockin’ for the Cure” Mane Attraction t-shirt and 100% of the proceeds from these sales will be donated directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I asked Butch why they decided to be so dedicated to this cause and he said “We’ve all been through our own garbage and we are all OK now. We just want to make sure things stay that way by keeping the Karma train going.” You can also find these t-shirts at local retail stores such as Pat’s Music Center on Frankford Avenue in NE Philly and at Way Out in the Roosevelt Mall.

You can of course, pick up one of these t-shirts at a Mane Attraction show as well, so be sure to check out their site and support a band that does so much to help others.

iw0kqtBethlehem, PA’s pop rock band Sandlot Heroes has scored their second #1 most requested song at B104 FM in Allentown, PA, beating out artists such as Kings of Leon, Nickleback, and The Fray. “Out of My Hands” is currently at 25 spins a week. Previously, the band’s song “So” enjoyed 5 consecutive weeks of being the #1 requested song at B104. Program Director Eric Chase testifies: “From the minute I saw and heard the Sandlot Heroes, I recognized them as a presence that could immediately be placed into the fabric of the pop culture equation that we try to create here at B104.”

“Out of My Hands” is the first single from their forthcoming full length debut “Pretend That We’re Famous” scheduled for an October 27 release date. The album was produced by Adam Richman over the past year in Coney Island. His collaboration with the band has produced a taut infectious blast of youthful rock that indicates this band is in it for the long haul.

Sandlot Heroes’ summer highlights included tour dates headlining at Musikfest (Bethlehem, PA’s international music festival that attracts one million people every year) and playing to fans at Hot Topic and the Gap stores in eastern PA. Fall tour dates in support of their release include the Dewey Beach Music Conference, AbsolutePunk.net Show at Crocodile Rock Cafe in Allentown, PA and a two week east coast tour. An all ages hometown record release party will take place on Saturday October 31, 2009 at Crocodile Rock.

Gulliftys2_3111Gullifty’s Bar and Grille, located in Rosemont, Pa. is one of the most impressive eateries on the Main Line. Established in 1975, Gullifty’s ranks superior among locals by continuing to provide an unparalleled dining experience and strong presence within the Main Line community. The name Gullifty comes from childhood favorite, Mister Roger’s Neighborhood. Remember “X the Owl” from the land of make-believe where everything was “Nifty-Gullifty”? With a great neighborhood of their own to serve on the Main Line, the restaurant Gullifty’s was born.

The dining menu at Gullifty’s is quite extensive, including Goat Cheese Bruschetta, Handspun Pizza, Sizzling Fajitas, their famous Kobe burger, Lobster Ravioli, Gran Marnier Filet Mignon, homemade desserts and plenty more, all at a modest price. From their tasty appetizers to their delicious entrees, Gullifty’s prices range from $6 to $22. Gullifty’s also runs daily lunch and dinner specials that are as unique and enjoyable as the restaurant itself. The bar features over 130 beers to choose from. Fortunately, Gullifty’s created a “Beer Book” to showcase their expansive bottled beer collection complete with details on each brew.

Gullifty’s offers a comfortable yet fun atmosphere for both families and college students alike; it is a dining experience unlike any other on the Main Line. It’s no surprise that Gullifty’s has won numerous Philadelphia restaurant awards, including, Main Times Best Family Restaurant, Main Line Today’s Best Beer Selection and Philadelphia Magazine’s Best Lunch.

To make a reservation call 610-525-1851, and to view the full menu and beer selection visit Gulliftys.com.
