CHEF JOSE GARCES’ AMADA
HOSTS LIVE FLAMENCO PERFORMANCES
EVERY THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
image001
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Diners and gamblers alike will be delighted by the public Flamenco Performances hosted every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Chef Jose Garces’ Andalucian tapas bar and restaurant, Amada (609-225-9900), at Revel (500 Boardwalk, 855-348-0500), the newest resort destination in Atlantic City.  The live performances are hosted by the restaurant on their custom-built flamenco stage, visible to the entire 300-seat dining room as well as from the casino floor beyond.
“Dancing and music are as important to Spanish culture as food and wine, and I’m thrilled to bring them together at Amada,” says Chef Garces, who owns Garces Group, with restaurants in Philadelphia, PA; Chicago, IL; Scottsdale, AZ; and Palm Springs, CA.  “These spirited live performances are a true taste of Spain for our guests and an incomparable experience that you can’t find anywhere else in Atlantic City.”
The performances feature flamenco troupes De Luna a Lunares (Thursdays and Saturdays) and Flamenco del Encuentro (Fridays).  Known for their dynamic style, authentic costumes and exceptional musical talent, both troupes have performed at Chef Garces’ original Amada in Philadelphia and are thrilled to partner with him again at Revel.  Dinner reservations on flamenco nights are strongly recommended, and can be arranged by calling (609) 225-9900.
Amada is an authentic Andalusian tapas bar located on the casino level at Revel, with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a central white marble bar and chic lounge seating;  a 14-seat private dining room;  a convenient walk-up take-out area for sangria and grilled snacks a la planxa with additional seating;  and a stunning dining room tucked against the resort’s sweeping glass façade with floor-to-ceiling views of the water.  The dining room features gray, brown and orange Spanish tiles and suspended orange glass drop chandeliers.  The entrance to the restaurant is adorned with twinkling candles, which also line the hallway that leads to the private room.  Seating throughout the restaurant, from circular brown leather banquettes to cream leather benches to hi-top butcher block tables and stools, is designed to offer guests optimal views of the ocean.
Amada’s grand open kitchen turns out an extensive menu that encourages guests to mix and share multiple dishes, whether enjoying drinks or indulging in a full meal.  Signature dishes include:  Charcutería y Quesos, assorted cured Spanish hams and sausages and artisanal cheeses, served with house-made accoutrements;  Pulpo a la Gallega, Spanish octopus with smoked paprika and potato coins;  Costillas de Ternera Coca, beef shortribs with horseradish, Parmesan and bacon on house-baked flatbread;  and Chipirones a la Planxa, grilled baby squid dressed simply with olive oil, sea salt, lemon, parsley and garlic.  Tapas range in price from $5 to $23.  A signature La Mesa de Jose tasting menu is also available, allowing guests to enjoy a selection of Chef Garces’ favorite tapas, all portioned appropriately for the number of diners at the table.
Chef Garces has two other restaurants inside Revel including Distrito Cantina, a lively margarita bar serving food from Guapos Tacos – a customized, stationary “food truck” that is styled after his wildly popular Philadelphia-based truck, and Village Whiskey, a retro-cool space that evokes the original in Philadelphia and is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of its namesake spirit available in Atlantic City.
Amada serves food from 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 12 midnight on weekends and holidays.  The restaurant hosts live flamenco performances every Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 p.m.  For more information, or to make a reservation, please call (609) 225-9900.

dick-clark-thumb
By Lynn Ramage’
Not many Philadelphian Legends have gotten the attention that the Passing of Dick Clark has received nationally since his passing o of a sudden Heart attack on April 18, 2012.  Born Richard Wagstaff Clark on November 30, 1929, Dick was only 82 when he left us. He knew since he was a small boy he wanted to pursue a career in Radio.  As a teen in 1945, he landed a job in the mailroom at radio station WRUN in New York. Not long after he was promoted to weather and then News announcer.
In 1952 he moved to WFIL radio in Philadelphia in 1952.”American Bandstand” then propelled Clark’s career from 1957 all the way to 1989 which featured many new and budding artist’s such as “The Jackson’s, Madonna, and our own local teen throb in 1959 was Bobby Rydal and Fabian were on his show too! He will be very missed by so many of the heavy hitters here in this area such as Chubby Checker,  Bill Wright, Sr., from WIBG (Wibbage),Tommy McCarthy Program Director from WOGL, Jerry Blavat, Mikey Vagnoni from OOTT and I even saw collaborator, producer/ songwriter Jerry Ross on the news who very saddened by this as well. This has really hit home with so many local Philadelphians. Some say “American Bandstand put Philadelphia on the map! The show was a teen sensation as it showed the way teens from all over danced to the hits of the day!  American Bandstand was here in Philadelphia until 1963 then the show was moved to Hollywood until it ended in 1989 which aided Dick into developing other shows along the way such as ”The $25,000 Pyramid and TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes.”
In 1972 we saw the first “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” which Dick Hosted even after his stroke till just this past New Years Eve.  One wonders if bringing in the New Years will ever be the same without Dick now. Even after his stoke which left him partially paralyzed and caused difficulty of speech you have to give him credit for still hosting the News Years to millions of Americans who looked forward to seeing him bring in the New Year!
Some of Dick’s famous Quotes were; “If you want to stay young looking, pick your parents carefully” and “I Don’t pick Trends, I find out what they are and then Exploit the living heck out of them” and finally We’ll leave you with his most famous words; “Music Is the Soundtrack of Your Life”

Kirko_4-bwKirko has been rocking the East Coast for more than 20 years now.  From bars and night clubs to weddings and corporate events, this band provides an extremely high level of professionalism and awesome musicianship!

I remember the first time I saw this band.  It was at my niece Jamie’s wedding a few years ago at The Philmont Country Club in Huntington Valley.  What a beautiful place to have a wedding!  It was outside on the patio area and it was a gorgeous day.  The sun was shining, the drinks were flowing and the music grabbed me and made me turn around from the very first note!  Here were these extremely handsome guys up there on the stage playing some of my favorite songs.  Everyone was dancing, as their lead singer Kevin Kirk was walking through the crowd with the wireless microphone, while playing his acoustic guitar.  They really made the wedding so much more enjoyable with a wonderful selection of songs, played with excellence.

One of the many great things about Kirko is that they can accommodate any party or venue.  They can come as a full band, or can scale down to a duo or solo.  They can even provide DJ services.  Whatever your need, this band delivers live music that will entertain any crowd.  Kirko plays a mix of everything – Classic and Modern Rock, Motown, Blues – you name it, they play it all!

The band itself is comprised of the Kirk brothers Kevin, Chris and Scott, along with their adopted brother, Mike Thompson.  You can see them playing all over the area at many great venues.  Kevin has an acoustic solo vertical every Thursday night at The Fireside in Feasterville from 8:30 – 1 am.  On Fridays, Kevin and Scott perform together for happy hour on the outdoor patio at The Fireside as well, from 5-9 pm.  Kirko will be one of the bands playing the 2nd Annual Hampton Brewfest, being held on Saturday May 19 from 1 – 6 pm at The Phoenix Sports Club located at 301 W Bristol Road in Feasterville.  Tickets are on sale now at www.hamptonbrewfest.com.  On Cinco De Mayo, they will be back at The Buck Hotel in Feasterville from 9:00 pm – 1 am.  Starting in September you can catch Kirko at The Parx Casino every month from 3-6 pm!

If you are having a private event of any kind and you are looking for a band that will make your party even better, contact the Kirko Band and you won’t be disappointed!  You can view their whole schedule and read more on the band’s website at www.thekirkoband.com – and be sure to join their Facebook page at Facebook.com/thekirkoband!

Cara & Skaggs

Apr 25, 2012

By Rose DeMilio Andress
The first time I heard Cara Cartney play was at Sparky’s World Famous in Levittown. A huge crowd gathered to celebrate our dear friend Jodi’s 50th birthday. Jayded was taking a break and up walks this obviously shy girl with a noticeable bit of stage fright. I was nervous and unsure for this kiddo but when Cara Cartney began to play and sing her voice was a delight and her style captured the room!
Music has always been a part of Cara’s life. Her musical influence and inspiration comes from her father Tim, a guitar player himself who passed his passion for Paul McCartney and the Beatles as well as many other great talents on to his daughter. When Cara was three years old her Dad gave her a big orange guitar and at that tender age Cara would join her father in singing the words to all of the songs. Around the age of 13 Cara realized that playing music came naturally to her, she learned to play the guitar by ear and had no formal vocal training. At age 15 Cara began writing her own songs and recording them on an 8 track. With the support of her mother Jane and her sister Kelly, Cara began to step out of her shyness and battle against her stage fright. She would share her beautiful voice and her passion for her music by playing out at many local venues and open mics, where she would meet and have the opportunity to play with “Skaggs”. Kismet!
Marc Magnani affectionately knows, as “Skaggs” is a brilliant self-taught percussionist. Music grabbed his soul at a young age with influences such as Curtis Mayfield, Santana and the Grateful Dead as well as some of Lower Bucks County’s finest musicians such as Danny DeGennaro. “Skaggs” jokingly admits to sneakin’ in to some of the favorite nightspots around town just to get the chance to play music with some of the very best! These early influences lead him on a musical journey to blue grass, blues, zydeco as well as working with a Grateful Dead cover band. Marc Magnani has been playing professionally for over twnety years now and thirteen of those were spent touring the East Coast with Paul Brion and the Raucous Brothers Band. “Skaggs” performance on percussion is a pleasure for the listener. You’ll find Marc Magnani playing on many occasion at the Logan Inn in New Hope PA and hosting weekly open mic nights at such places as Marie’s Kozy Korner in Fairless Hills, PA on Wednesday. “Skaggs” easy going nature invites everyone to join in, creating a room filled with fantastic musical energy.
Cara and Skaggs perform beautifully as a duo. Together they are hosting Sunday night open mic at Sparky’s World Famous in Levittown, PA and they are sharing their unique sound at other popular venues such as Dog&Bull in Croydon, PA.   They were recently afforded the opportunity to play along with Sharon Rivera at a talent show hosted by Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA. T

hey won second place in that competition. The story doesn’t end there. Cara and Skaggs plan to collaborate, blending their creative writing and creating their unique sound. It’s an exciting time for these two talented musicians! This Cara & Skaggs fan can’t wait to see what their bright future has in store.
