Barbi stands in at 5′ 4” and has hazel eyes and black hair, She is a personality bartender all the way and because of her witty manner, she has a great fan base of steady customers that come to see her each week. She loves her job and her many friends.

Cricket Boy

Too bad when I was a kid there wasn’t a guy in our class that everybody called the “Cricket Boy”, because I would have liked to stand up in class and tell everybody, “You can make fun of the Cricket Boy if you want to, but to me he’s just like everybody else.” Then everybody would leave the Cricket Boy alone, and I’d invite him over to spend the night at my house, but after about five minutes of that loud chirping, I’d have to kick him out.

Deeper Thoughts ...

– I bet it would be pretty hard to pick up girls if you had the Black Death.
– Too bad you can’t just grab a tree by the very tiptop and bend it clear over the ground and then let her fly, because I bet you’d be amazed at all the stuff that comes flying out.

Perky Lisa

Lisa, a woman in her mid 50’s, was at home happily jumping up and down on her bed and squealing with delight. Her husband Matt watches for a little while and asks, “Do you have any idea how ridiculous you look? What’s the matter with you?”

PHILLY BEER WEEK 2011 ANNOUNCES THE ANNUAL
HAMMER OF GLORY RELAY:
BRINGING THE OFFICIAL KEG HAMMER TO THE OPENING TAP

pbwPHILADELPHIA, PA – On Friday, June 3, beginning at 8 a.m., a Philadelphia tradition will kick off Philly Beer Week (PBW) 2011: the epic journey of the Hammer of Glory (affectionately nicknamed the HOG) to the Opening Tap at the spectacular Independence Visitor Center (6th and Market Streets). As in years past, the HOG will make a day-long trek across the city conveyed only by unusual and exotic means of transport (cars strongly discouraged!), culminating in its arrival to Mayor Michael Nutter for the ceremonial first keg tapping of the 10-day festival.
“Philly Beer Week is a celebration of brewing and drinking that brings the entire city together, and I can’t think of a better way to jump-start the festivities than the HOG relay, which brings our beloved keg hammer out to the Opening Tap by visiting some of our favorite beer spots throughout Philadelphia,” says Executive Director Don Russell, aka Daily News columnist Joe Sixpack. “The journey has become its own PBW event, with people following it the whole way!”
At each stop, the HOG will be handed off to the next person with these words, “Noble carrier, we entrust you with The Hammer of Glory, the omnipotent symbol of our beloved Philly Beer Week. May your journey be safe. Work ye up a thirst, for there shall be a beer waiting for you at your destination. Godspeed!”

OK folks; get ready for one of the BEST Party bands this area has seen in a very long time. The first time I heard them, I was blown away and that is saying A LOT! Anyone that knows me knows that I am extremely particular about Cover bands. Yes, I am opinionated but that is what Mike V and the OOT pay me for! The band I am featuring this month has it all – looks, smarts, awesome musicianship and most of all, heart & soul. Ladies & Gentlemen, please let me introduce to you – Gypsy Wisdom!

The band is comprised of 5 highly seasoned musicians, including Danny & Courtney formerly of Joe Bachman & the Crew. This band has certainly raised the bar, and not just with their talent. All 5 members of this band are highly dedicated & extremely passionate about playing. I had the pleasure of speaking with Lead singer, Courtney Jansen who told me “There is definitely something magical about this band. Everyone is so dimensionally talented and we all love playing together. We are all really good friends.” I can vouch for this statement. I have seen them and I am here to tell ya folks, “magical” is a really good word to describe them. They shine on stage. You can really tell they just love what they are doing. Gypsy Wisdom is definitely high energy like many bands out there, but embedded with a passion all their own. They play just about everything, from party classics by Madonna and Elvis to Top 40 and even some Country. There repertoire is always changing to appeal to all music lovers. On stage, everyone is versatile and interchanging instruments in order to keep things fresh and interesting for the audience. In a nutshell, they do this band thing right!

Even though the band has only been together a short 6 months, they have been making people stop and take notice all over the tri-state area. And they are doing so in some of the best rooms around. Some of the verticals they have going are Thursday nights at 10 pm through 6/2 in they’ll be at The Gypsy Bar at The Borgata in Atlantic City, and Tuesdays The GW Trio will be performing at The Windrift in Avalon, NJ at 8 pm all summer long! If you plan on going down the shore Memorial Day Weekend, you’ll have plenty of chances to catch them. It’s a non-stop weekend for Gypsy Wisdom! Friday 5/27 they will be at Seacrets in Ocean City MD, Saturday 5/28 it’s back to The Windrift in Avalon NJ, on Sunday 5/29, they will be live at Nalu in Rehoboth Beach DE and on Monday Memorial Day you can see them at one of the best places in Sea Isle NJ, La Costa! Plan on spending at least one night with this Powerhouse of a band if you want to have a GREAT time.

One of the many things I love about Gypsy Wisdom is that no matter where they are playing, their passion and love for music is apparent. They are genuinely “good” people that love to perform. There are no inflated egos here. The band will make you feel welcome, and they have a unique ability to turn a night into what feels like a private party with friends. “No matter the size of the room,” Courtney told me, “we always want people to love it and want more from us. Their return visit to another show means the world to us.” When forming the rest of the band, Danny & Courtney made it a point to pick players that knew what was in store for them. They knew they would all be spending a lot of time together and they chose players that had the same passion and love for entertaining as they do. Being in a band can be tough at times. Personalities don’t always match up. But this mix of musicians seems to really “click” on and off stage. There’s nothing fake about them. They are having a lot of fun up there and so will you when you see them. Their energy is contagious. Their presence commands your attention. You WILL want to dance. You WILL be all smiles. You WILL love this band! As a musician myself, I can only tell you how good this band is. “You need to see it to feel it” Courtney told me (while in the background Danny yelled “that’s what she said” LOL!)

Dean Casmirri’s Colonial Inn offers something for everyone.  Their food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun and inviting.  It’s one of those rare finds, just off the beaten path you always hear people talking about.  All of the food is served hot & fresh and everything is homemade.  I spoke to owner Dean Casmirri and he told me “The food here is always big hit with everyone.”  I can see why.  I have been there many times and it’s always delicious.  They serve everything from soup and apps to full course dinners including meat, poultry, pasta and seafood items.  “The Clams Casino is a crowd favorite and our mushrooms stuffed with Crab Imperial are fantastic.”  Dean explained.  Some of the other delicious appetizers are the Shrimp and Scallops Wrapped in Bacon, the Creamy Crab Dip, served with a Brandy cream sauce, garlic toast and tortilla chips, and the Hawaiian Coconut Shrimp served with a tropical dipping sauce.  As far as the entrees go, they have a great selection of favorites including Fresh Slow Roasted Turkey, served with stuffing, mashed potatoes and veggies, Fresh Veal Cutlet Parmigiana and the 8oz Grilled Filet Mignon.  The prices are awesome too.  All entrees include Soup or Salad and are priced between $12.99 and $15.99!  Dean Casmirri’s Colonial Inn offers great weekly specials, too.  Come in Sunday through Wednesday for dinner, and for just $9.99 you can have your entrée, plus soup or salad, 2 veggies or pasta AND dessert.  We are talking nice dinners too, like Homemade Lasagna, Lemon Chicken & Tilapia Florentine, just to name a few.  If a Sammy or Burger is more your speed, there is plenty to choose from and all are priced between $6 and $10.  Nightly food and drink specials are plentiful, including Mondays, $2.00 Coors Light Pints; Tuesdays, $3.00 Creek Fries 9 to 11 pm; Wednesday it’s Dollar Dog Night!  On Thursday 10 pm till Midnight get your fill of $1.00 Domestic Pints, $2.00 Domestic Bottles and $3.00 Shots.  During the weekend it’s time to unwind and you can do it right at The Colonial!  Friday they offer

$3.00 Sweet Tea Vodka Lemonade and $3.00 Bubble Gum Blasts all day!  Saturdays and every night of the week, its time for the 1-2-3 Special 11 pm until Midnight, and on

Sunday its $2.00 Domestic Pints all day and $2.00 (6) Wings all day.  The Colonial Inn is also a great place for entertainment on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with either live acoustic music, Karaoke or the DJ spins your favorite tunes. The Legendary DOBBS

In a city full of historical ubiquity and a street famous for its arts, shops, entertainment and eclectic culture, The Legendary Dobbs has been a long-standing memorabilia for what was created on South Street in Philadelphia in 1975.

The Legendary Dobbs was first established under the name JC Dobbs, which reflected a stereotypical classic rock bar until its sad closing in 1996.  Throughout the years, guests have experienced some of the greatest moments in rock-n-roll history.  For 21 years, JC Dobbs is one of the few Philadelphia clubs that has only presented original music.  Many local talents emerged at JC Dobbs including Oasis, Green Day, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bo Diddley, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Asylum, Rage Against the Machine, The Offspring, Mother Love Bone, Indigo Girls and countless more.  Whether JC Dobbs helped much international stardom arise or it helped create a name for local talent, Dobbs is a historical part of Philadelphia.

Luckily, on Saturday, December 18th, 2010, The Legendary Dobbs re-opened its doors.  Philadelphians will hopefully remember the legacy that was a staple in the Philadelphia music scene, rich in history and tradition for 21 years.  According to George Manney, producer of “Meet Me On South Street, The Story of JC Dobbs,” the new owners-renters of the 304 South Street location have some big shoes to fill, IF they can.”  Robert Damerjian, Justin Wolk and Heshey Schlachterman make up the new ownership that is committed to making this venue a destination for artists, fans and music enthusiasts alike.  “They need to work closely with the local music community, radio, press and TV to help generate an interest to South Street again, as most of the live music dried up years ago in that area… Hopefully my documentary, “Meet Me On South Street, The Story of JC Dobbs”, may spark some interest to the new generation of musicians and what came before them and perhaps take a few ideas with them on their journey performing music in Philadelphia,” says Manney.

Dobbs has refined their look by highlighting their new cherry finished bars, copper toned ceilings and brand new audio and video systems.  However, the original stages are still in place to spark the nostalgia that is indicative of the Dobbs experience.
