The band Wild Child is becoming the new band to watch for 2011. The group is fronted by vocalist extraordinaire Alexa Raquel and really does bring a high level of entertainment wherever they play. “We’re a rock band first,” states Alexa, “and that’s what people notice first about us. We started doing some Lady GaGa songs in the band Sapphire Blue (known as “Sapphire”), which is an upscale band that I sing for, and people really liked it. Now, we want to bring that same show into the club scene so more people can see it. The band is made up of Marc Pepe on bass, Greg Mangoni on guitar, Ricky Blong on drums… and myself doing all the jumpin’ and screamin’ LOL. I had a chance to play overseas last year and the whole time I was thinking, ‘I can’t wait to get home.’ Its kind of nice since they really appreciate American rock and roll, which will be cool since we are scheduled to play in Bamberg, Germany in a few months, but things are way more cutting edge in the states.”
Alexa continues, “I think when people see the band play, especially our tribute to GaGa, they’re pretty surprised. The audience for GaGa are right around my own age, so it’s a natural fit. On any given night the band might throw in some Zepplin and maybe even Guns, depending on the crowd. Dance music, especially songs by Madonna, Pink and Katy Perry are also a big part of our show, but again, it really depends on what type of crowd it is. If it’s a more rockin’ crowd one night, we’re gonna come in harder. If people are really dancing, we have dance medleys over twenty minutes long. We don’t just try to play the room but also to the people inside that room.”
“The thing we really had to work hard on was our production. We didn’t just run out and buy a couple of flashing lights or speakers on stands, but rather involved the expertise of people who know how to do this. All the lights are run from a laptop and the sound is pretty wicked, if I do say so myself. We see a lot of bands that sound really good but we wanted to involve more sensationalism and movement into our thing, and that’s something you don’t see a lot of these days. I think sometimes the band members wish we could just go up and play, but I’m a trained vocalist and dancer, so I want to get the whole crew involved. It fun, though. That’s the bottom line. We want people to have fun when they come to see us, and it’s certainly less expensive to go to the local nightclub and see us than going out to buy real GaGa tickets at $500.00 a piece. In addition to the whole GaGa thing, we are also working on our second CD, which will be available locally and on iTunes very soon.”

Since 1996, Sindi and Jimmy Raymond have been providing great times and great entertainment for people who love good music. From Classic Rock to some of today’s most popular Top 40 songs, people all over the tri-state area just can’t seem to get enough of this dynamic duo!
I spoke to Sindi and Jimmy and both were extremely sincere when they told me how much they love performing. They have been working together since the early days of their band Funhouse back in the ‘80’s. These two have a definite closeness that everyone can see – onstage and off. They make the audience feel welcome and part of the show by constantly interacting with them, drinking with them and taking the time to get to know them.
When you go to see The Sindi Raymond Band, you better be ready to dance AND rock! They will go from playing Lady Gaga to Pantera and it will simply blow your mind. They have a loyal following of fans that will actually plan their schedules around their shows so that they are there to see what Sindi and Jimmy will do next! They are constantly pushing the boundaries by offering true entertainment that is unlike anything else you will see. There is no set list for these two either – they go into any room with their “balls to the wall” attitude and play the music that particular crowd wants to hear. They offer an arsenal of close to 1,000 songs and will surely please every single person in the room!
You can catch The Sindi Raymond Band and some great places, such as Curran’s Bensalem and Palmyra NJ locations. On Thursdays in February, the full band, including Sindi, Jimmy plus Buddy Cash on Bass and Wayne Sigma on drums will be rocking at Tom & Jerry’s from 10 pm – 2 am. For their full schedule please visit their website at www.sindiraymondband.com.
There’s not much I can say about these guys that most of the OOT readers don’t already know. If having fun while listening to a wide range of really good live music is your thing, then go see The Sindi Raymond band. They are fun, full of energy and are sure to please!

Jamison grew out of the Irish-American streets of Northeast Philadelphia in 2003 – a mixed bag of musicians from past popular Irish and cover bands. Since then, Jamison has grown to offer what has been called ‘one of the most high energy shows on the east coast’, with dynamic reels mixed with rock, reggae, modern pop, hiphop dance beats and just about every cover genre – all while never straying far from their Irish roots. At times, Irish dancers seem to appear from nowhere donning Jamison shirts and leading the crowd in jumps and cheers while the band can be seen playing from atop the bar. Fans are sure to leave a show with a sweaty shirt and a level of excitement that few live shows can produce.
Over the years, the band has been featured in Fox Good Day Philadelphia’s promotion of the Penn’s Landing Irish Festival, headlined the Phoenixville Concert Series, rocked the main stage at the 5000+ attended Running of the Santa’s, played the Cape May County Irish Fall Festival (Wildwood NJ), the Delmarva Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration, and of course Philadelphia’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade celebration.
Jamison has had songs featured on Midwest Radio in Ireland, was awarded “Best Band” in 2009 by the Mt Holly St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and more recently, won ‘Best Irish Band in America’ in the Strangford Lough battle of the bands. To celebrate, the band will be flown to Las Vegas to perform at McFadden’s. Jamison WILL be running a huge group trip to Vegas with the band – dates to be announced soon!
Locally, you can find Jamison playing the biggest venues in the area including The Electric Factory, Citizens Bank Park, and festivals, clubs and pubs all over the tri state area. Summer time takes Jamison to the Jersey shore, with regular performance in North Wildwood and Sea Isle City.
This year as the big day for the green approaches, you can catch Jamison just about everywhere. On St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th), Jamison will be rocking Brittingham’s in Lafayette Hill in the afternoon then closing out the night at Kildare’s in West Chester.
Jamison’s full schedule can be found at www.JamisonCelticRock.com

This time for the dining out I headed out to one of Mayfair’s popular neighborhood spots, Reales Sports Bar and Grille. It’s located in the heart of Mayfair at the intersection of Frankford and Cottman Avenues. I have to say we had a pretty good time hanging out there. The service was fantastic and the place was packed with lots of friendly people! Reales is family owned and operated since 1992. I met with Gary, one of the owners. I asked him if there was any truth to the neighborhood buzz about having the best wings around. He told me that in just one week they go through 15,000 wings and 5,000 to 7,000 of these little gems are gobbled up every Wednesday for their big Wing Special-for just 20 cents each-NO WONDER! And let me tell you these wings are AWESOME! My guest and I ordered a portion of the Lemon, Butter and Garlic Wings and the Oriental Wings. They were delicious and the sauces were to die for!
Since it was Thursday night, we savored in the special “All-U-Can-Eat Snow Crabs” for just $19.99 (from 4-10pm). Our waitress, Jen, brought out a jumbo sized bowl full and they had pretty big clusters and claws filled with sweet and delicate Crab meat, soaked in their famous Crab sauce and by preference dipped in drawn butter. Yum! But if you just want a taste, for just $9.95 you get a pound and for just $5.00 more you get 2 pounds. Next I tried a crock of their French Onion Soup for just $4.50. This was probably one of the best I have had in a long time. It was seasoned just right and the melted cheese oozed over with every bite. My guest and ordered from their special dinner menu, which changes daily, for just $12.95 each. These entrees come with a glass of House Wine, Dinner Salad, Home-made Garlic Knots and Dessert. And let me tell you, we both were very happy with our selection and the price was hard to beat! He ordered the Chicken Griglia. Two grilled Chicken Breasts topped with Roasted Red Peppers, Spinach and Provolone Cheese, with a Baked Potato and a mix of Broccoli and Cauliflower on the side. I ordered the Breaded Seafood Platter which came with a large portion of Breaded Flounder, (2) Crab Cakes and Butterfly Shrimp with a side of French Fries. The portions were so big we barely could get through ½ of our dinners, but as always we made room for DESSERT! The dessert was a perfect ending to this great night Out On The Town, Triple Chocolate Delight Cake with a scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream and a splash of Chocolate Sauce. Reales’ menu also includes many of your favorite bar items-all reasonably priced. They have a great selection of Sandwiches, Wraps, Pizza, Hot Paninis, Hall of Fame Burgers, Steaks, Chicken, and Quesadillas.
The bar is fully stocked and has daily drink specials including many specialty frozen drinks like their Signature Frozen Long Island Iced Tea. Reales is great place to hang out to watch the game, sing some karaoke or meet new people any time. They also cater private parties and have a private room that seats about 75 guests. For more information please call them at (215) 332-6374 or check them out on Facebook. Next time your in the neighborhood make Reales Sports Bar and Grille your best stop!

There’s plenty of places to get a bite to eat and a few drinks in NE Philly. In fact, some of the best food I have ever had was right in Mayfair. Just take a ride down Frankford Avenue and you’ll see everything you could possibly want. But just off the beaten path at 8400 Torresdale Avenue, there is a little place you might want to check out called The Ashburner Inn.
The Ashburner has really made a name for itself in the 6 years it has been in business. They are doing all the right things there from serving delicious, fresh food to treating their customers as true guests. I spoke to owner/operator Karen and what impressed me the most was how she spoke about her employees. She told me, “We have some of the friendliest servers in this area and all of them really care about making our guests happy.” One of the more well-known employees is their hostess Connie, who Karen described as a “treasure.” Connie, who has been there since The Ashburner first opened in 2005, is also an alter server at St. Bernard’s and St. Matt’s Churches in NE Philly. She is very popular with the Ashburner regulars, Karen explained. “Connie knows all of our regular guests. She makes them feel welcome and even bakes desserts at home and brings them in for them to sample. She knows all their birthdays and even brings them recipes.” Many of the employees have been there from the beginning. They take pride in what they do and it shows. I have been to The Ashburner myself several times and it has always been a great experience. There is a very warm and welcoming “family feel” to the place.
The Ashburner building itself is quite unique. From the exposed brick left in tact from the original structure to the church pews purchased from Holy Child Church on Broad Street before it was closed, these touches give the room a very interesting ambiance that you won’t find at other places. There is also a beautiful hand painted mural with hidden keys throughout that also lends to its eclectic decor. Everything about the building screams charm and it truly is a lovely place to have a nice dinner or meet friends for drinks.
As far as the food goes, it’s some of Philly’s best. From delicious appetizers like their Red or White Mussels, Philly Steak Rolls and Gorgonzola Piadine to mouth watering dinners of Baby Back Ribs, Bourbon Salmon, and their famous Chicken Parmigiana, you simply can’t go wrong. If sandwiches, burgers or pizza are more your style, The Ashburner does it up right with a wonderful menu of choice items that will satisfy the fussiest eater. They even have an authentic Italian brick oven, shipped directly from Italy that they use to make all of their pizzas. Their prices will also satisfy your wallet considering the price range of their entrees run between $12.00 – $19.00. The Ashburner also runs great specials every day of the week! Come in for their awesome daily lunch special and get any sandwich on the menu, accompanied by your choice of soup or salad for just $6.99. On Monday nights it’s Yuengs & Wings – get a bucket of their yummy wings and a pitcher of Yuengling Lager for just $11.95 – this is a great special for watching any games on their GI-HUGE-IC projection screen TV. Tuesday is Trivia Night with Dave Schafer. All my alumni from Bishop Conwell HS should remember Mr. Schafer who is now teaching at St. Hubert’s. From what I hear, the ladies still love him! Test your knowledge and enjoy $2.50 Heineken and Heineken Lite while winning great prizes! On Wednesdays, it’s Tarot Card night – a great time to spend with your friends. Thursdays at The Ashburner is Pizza Night – get a large pizza and a pitcher of PBR for just $10! Get ready for some great weekend fun at The Ashburner with a 6 – 10 pm Happy Hour offering great drink specials every week and starting in March, some of the best acoustic talent will perform live from 8 – 11 pm. To view all of their specials or events calendar please visit www.ashburnerinn.com.
Are you planning a party any time soon? If so, you don’t need to look any further for the perfect spot – The Ashburner has a beautiful room upstairs that will accommodate up to 100 people. The room is open and airy, with huge windows overlooking the bar downstairs. It has a classy yet casual feel to it and all the food is served buffet style. The room also has private restrooms and is wheel chair accessible. The Ashburner is known for making a fuss over their party guests and they will create a memorable experience by providing top notch food and excellent service at a great price.
For all you LOVE BIRDS looking for a romantic place to spend Valentine’s Day – The Ashburner has the BEST deal we have seen so far! The dinner package includes entree choices of Filet Mignon with 2 Jumbo Stuffed Black Tiger Shrimp, 4 Jumbo Stuffed Black Tiger Shrimp, Twin Filet Mignon, Surf & Turf or Twin Lobster Tails. You also get a crisp salad, Pearl Potato Medley, Broccoli, Double Chocolate Cake AND a bottle of Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio – all for just $60.00 per couple! This Valentine Special runs from February 11 through Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Sounds great, doesn’t it? You will definitely impress your loved one by choosing The Ashburner! To make your reservation call 215-333-9860.
The Ashburner Inn truly has it all and is for everyone who enjoys good food, outstanding service and great prices. You really can’t go wrong by choosing the Ashburner for dinner, drinks or your next party. Go there today and tell them The Out On The Town sent you!
