_MTD7004-2What do you get when you mix some Classic and Modern Rock, sprinkle in some Reggae and season with a hint of Funk?  Well, you get one of the hottest and most exciting cover bands to hit the circuit in years called Taste, of course!

Taste is a band managed by Apollo Artists that has only been together since August of 2010, but have been turning heads like nobody’s business!  Consisting of 5 highly talented musicians, Taste is a band that will just knock your socks off.

I interviewed lead vocalist, Mike Chevalier and asked him what was different about Taste and he told me, “We have a combination of unique instrumentation, well-seasoned players, and strong vocals; we’re also ready, willing and able to do just about anything that people want to hear. There are a lot of great groups around, though we definitely play some stuff you just won’t hear anywhere else, and you won’t hear the variety of material we cover by a single band, sometimes within a single set.”  This band has been known to play “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, “Disco Inferno” and “Thriller” into the same set, all the while keeping a great, energetic flow. Taste loves to keep you guessing, by only playing the best songs, with great arrangements and energy.  Their shows are unpredictable, explosive and irresistibly funky.

From Motown and Classic Funk to Classic/Modern Rock and the latest Pop and club hits, Taste knows what it takes to keep their fans dancing all night long.  This band simply focuses on keeping people dancing, drinking and smiling, all the while keeping it weird, wild and fun!  If you were down the shore this past summer, you probably saw this crazy bunch playing at places like Keenan’s, The Wharf of Club Luna.  They are now starting to play at local clubs in and around the Philly area.  In the month of December they have shows lined up at the following places:  12/3 – Harrah’s Eden Lounge, 12/10 they’ll be at The  Manayunk Brew Pub, from 12/12-12/18 they’ll hit Sloppy Joe’s in Key West, Fl and on 12/30 at The Trappe Tavern.

I asked Mike what kind of music they all like to play the most and he told me, “Anything funky. Our fantasy setlist would probably be an even mix of James Brown, Jamiroquai, The Meters and Parliament-Funkadelic. We’d love to have a life sized Mothership land on stage, too!”

This band is definitely something special.  It took them a few years of playing an annual corporate holiday event every year to really understand what they had together, but now here they are and they’re ready to ROCK!

You can see Taste’s full schedule at, hear samples of their music and view pictures of past shows.  They are available to play all clubs and events and can be booked through Apollo Artists Attractions by calling Eli at 610-328-6500.  Taste is:  Michael Chevalier on lead vocals, violin & keys; Ian Scattareggia on lead guitar & vocals; Erik Scatterggia on drums, programming & vocals, Rob Craft on lead guitar, vocals & trumpet and             Aaron Hindorff on lead vocals & bass.  This is certainly a band you will want to check out time and time again!

BANDCUTThem Bones is a name that may sound very familiar to you.  For 4 years now, this band has been rocking bars and clubs in NJ & PA, building up quite a name and following.  I spoke with Guitar player, Brian Mariano and asked him why they have had such good success and he told me, “  We are very high energy with no bells and whistles.  We don’t wear costumes or give out prizes or anything like that.  During a typical show our lead singer, Chris Vanzyl is all over the place getting people jacked up and into it.  We just rock out as hard as we can and have a blast doing it!”

Another reason why Them Bones may sound familiar is that they were last year’s winner of the WMGK House Band Competition.  Brian told me what a great experience that was for them.  They went into it with no real expectations and worked hard on learning new music, just figuring they would see what happens.  Brian told me, “We learned about 50 Classic Rock songs in a month to prepare for the first show.  It was John Debella’s Halloween Bash at Finnegan’s Wake.  It was tough – every one of us was sick.  But we pushed through it and the crowd had a blast.  The WMGK people were great to us and playing the “Let Freedom Rock” fest was really cool”.

Them Bones definitely has a lot of fans in the area too.  We recently set up on online pole on Facebook, asking people to vote for their favorite local bands and these guys had the most votes out of any other local cover band.  Playing songs in their own way has certainly given them an edge.  Although they are good enough to cover a song note for note, they prefer to put their own spin on things, keeping that high energy going so that things don’t get stale.  Brian explained, “For us in the band, every show is really a party.  We love to play and watch people dancing and digging the music.

This is a band that just likes to see everyone enjoying themselves.  Brian said, “We just want people to have a great time with us.  We have no agenda, but to have fun.  Just like, ‘Hey, we are having a party, there’s gonna be beer, you guys should come’”

If you would like to go see Them Bones perform live, here are a couple of their upcoming dates: 12/3 – The Taproom Grill in Haddon Township, NJ; 12/9 – Sam’s Bar & Grille in Blackwood, NJ.  You can see their full schedule and listen to recordings on their website at

Them Bones is:  Chris Vanzyl – Vocals; Chris Smith – Drums; Mike Hegeman – Bass;

John Carpenter – Guitar and Brian Mariano – Guitar.  The OOT would once again like to congratulate the band on winning our pole, and wish you continued success for years to come!

chowder_promo_picChowder is a band with deep roots in NE Philadelphia.  They have been together now for 10 years and have a very large and dedicated fan base.  The band has a very unique style, both in playing covers and in writing their own originals.  Chowder is an extremely versatile band, always focusing on showing their fans a great time!
I spoke to my friend and Guitarist, Billy Luber and he told me, “Our music is really hard to classify as one type of genre. We mix in Blues, Rock, Jazz and Funk with lots of great leads and chord progressions.  It’s very different from anything else you may hear out there.”  The music that Chowder plays is very crisp and tight.  They work very hard during practice, making sure to get every single part down, exactly the way they want it.  Billy explained, “We really want our originals to shine and we work them over and over until they are perfect.  When we do play covers we don’t play the same standard songs many other cover bands tend to play.  Instead, we play songs that we like and just have fun jamming.  They come off so much better and our fans love it.”
If you go to see Chowder play live, you are going to feel energized!  Their sets are full of power and positive energy.  Everyone is up dancing and smiling and just having a good time.  This is a really great group of musicians who are extremely friendly and eager to please.   Even after 10 years of playing, Billy told me they all still get butterflies before a show.  He went on to say, “We just want to entertain.  We want to see smiles on everyone’s faces and we want everyone to leave feeling good.  It’s not about the money for us – we just want to give people live music they can truly enjoy.”
If you are ready to see a great band perform both covers and originals, you can catch them at the following venues:
November 4 – Curran’s Irish Inn, Bensalem, PA
November 19 – Redz Bar & Grill, NE Phila
December 16 – Flukes Restaurant & Pub, NE Phila
If you would like to learn more about the band and hear some of their songs, you can check them out on Facebook right now – just search “Chowder Band.”  Chowder is Jason Cowden –  Lead Vocals and Guitar; Chris Griffith – Drums; Gino Pini – Bass Guitar; and Billy Luber Guitar.

rob-zombieOOT put it’s thinking caps on and thought, what Rock Star really portrays Halloween the most?  Dee Snider? Alice Cooper? Corey Taylor? Many of the Glam bands? I went through my personal filing cabinet and Rob Zombie seemed to stick out the most!  I went after Rob for an interview to see what he’s been up to and apparently he’s not out on tour right now. But I did note off his website” that “Hellbilly Deluxe II” is out.  We did interview Rob with “Hellbilly Deluxe I” with that mega Hit “Dragula” which he told me was about the “Munster Car” and has sold 717,000 copies in the U.S. by 2010.  A Dozen years later, this new release II  features the catchy  single “Sick Bubblegum,” which sounds perhaps like it was written during the original sessions, “What?” a dark, distorted track that has Zombie’s signature sound, “Werewolf, Baby,” another sick ‘n demented rock ‘n roll anthem, and Zombie electric shocks like “Jesus Frankenstein” and the thunderous “Mars Needs Women.” Hellbilly Deluxe II can be found on Roadrunner Records.

The band consists of John 5, Piggy D, Ginger Fish and of course Rob Zombie. I followed Rob’s blog and see that they did very well in Germany this year. In Nurgbring they played to 85,000 fans!  I know in talking to many of the metal bands that Europe blows the states right out of the water when it comes to attendance as well as enthusiasm by a landslide!  I am wondering if Europe gives them more radio support? More Press? Well, after all, Think about it!  Philadelphia has what?  One preprogram rock radio station, and doubtful our listeners will call in and get Zombie played to often.

Now Zombie was actually born Robert Bartleh Cummings;on January 12, 1965, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He was the first of two sons. His younger brother Michael David Cummings was born in 1968 and is better known as “Spider One” the frontman to an alternative metal band many of you know called “Powerman 5000.” On May 23, 2010 Zombie’s new comic book series about a fictitious Horror Host “Whatever Happened To Baron Von Shock?”  The first print sold out in less than a week!  Rob is an American musician, film director, Screenwriter and film producer. He founded the band “White Zombie” and has been nominated three times as a solo artist for the “Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.” Zombie has also established a career as a film director, creating the movies “House of a 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejects,” the 2007 remake of “Halloween” and the “Haunted World of the El Superbeasto.”  I heard his next film will be the “The Lords Of Salem” which is scheduled for release in theaters sometime in 2012!  One might note that Rob Zombie is all into merchandising too!  If you check out his website you can order, videos, T-shirts, hats, Rob Zombie dolls, Zombie lunchboxes, posters, and even a bag of Rob Zombie organic coffee!

On Halloween day of 2002, Zombie married longtime girlfriend “Sheri Moon.” A striking girl whom I met on a shared ride down an elevator with them one year. Rob frequently features her in all of his horror films. They currently live in Woodbury, Connecticut and LA He really is a pretty down to earth guy for such an incredible talent!  I would have to say he is very unique!
