It hasn’t even been a week yet since the finale of “LOST” ended May 23 and so many of us are already feeling the pangs of withdrawal!  What are we going to do now without LOST? There are “Star Trekkie’s” and there are “LOSTEE”S” and I never understood the “Trekkie” movement until I became a devout LOSTEE. That included screaming obscenities into the phone to anyone that dared to call you at 9pm on a Tuesday night which was the epic Television series LOST time slot!  For six strong seasons we fell in love with Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Syiad, Hugo, Julia, John Locke, Rose and Bernard and yes even Benjamin Linus! They were like family!  The actors were phenomenal they made you believe! For those of us who are of a scientific nature, the prove it to me, show me types the finale wasn’t to their expectations. I know and Queen Helene and I were like “What? You’ve got to be kidding! This is how they are ending it?”  OK, so It had a so so to a good ending and or greater ending for the more spiritual believers.  However, it did leave some skeptics with questions left unanswered.
Here are some takes from my crew on Facebook I thought were worth sharing:
Kevin Mercer of the band KRANK (that by the way is playing the Cellblock Reunion June 6) said this;
“OK now here’s the thing- none of the main characters died in the plane crash! Everything that happened to them on the island was real! The only thing that was afterlife related was this seasons “flash-sideways”. Does this make more sense to you? Yeah if the whole series was just a dream I could understand why you hated the ending-it’s a rip-off of Dallas & Newhart- but that is not the case at all,”

and then Michael Dadura commented on Kevin Mercer’s status:
“Jack truly did lived together with his fellow castaways and died alone technically if you do not count Vincent! He sacrificed him self to save the island and universe for real and Moved on as a man of faith like a rapture state with his friends!
Christian stated these people are dead. But, they did not die when you did. They came to join with you to move on and let go. There is no timeline rule in this reality. Hurley stated that Linus was a good #2 and mpre stated he was a good # 1. What happened on the Island was real! What ever happened Happened! Let go and move on! We did not get to see their deaths because Sideways was for Jack’s closure to move on. Filmed from his point of view from the beginning of the season.
If you like to get technical, the bomb and Faraday’s theory worked for Jack! He implemented and everything was done from his view.
When Jack replaced Jacob, He asked Jacob what the purpose was, Too protect the Light as long as you can. How can I protect it against MIB? Do I have to kill MIB and how? Yes, you have to find a way to kill MIB and I do not know how? Jack found a way by letting Desmond destroy the light temporarily and make MIB human. Now MIB can be killed and Jack can fix the light like everything else he has! Salvation is his reward and his friends are awarded normal lives till they die! They get to share in Jack’s awakening in the Sideways reality to Move On and Let all past frustration go! Excellent End!”

Andrew Nolan’s from OOTT’s take was this:
“The journey of LOST began on September 22, 2004 and ended just a couple weeks ago.  Given that so many millions committed to the plot, characters and the island for over 6 years, it’s understandable that the ending left much to be desired for so many.  I was certainly one who, at first, was left with a little confusion and disappointment over the series finale.  Then after about 48 hours, I rewatched the finale again along with a couple of other back episodes.  I am not a man of faith and was a little upset about all the religious references and how they tried to tie the ending into a nice, neat little bow.  But now I fully appreciate the show for what it was.  It was the most thought-inducing, unique and creative shows to ever hit network television.  No matter how you felt about the ending, each week prior had an episode that would create debate and theories that excited myself and brought me closer to my family/friends who also enjoyed it.  The amazing writing, direction, acting, music and production value can not be disputed.  So after further review, I thought the ending was very well orchestrated, and although not all questions were answered, the show kept to it’s credo of keeping you guessing and interpreting.  So, if you’re looking for commentary on the ending, there’s plenty out there to read.  But the real questions remaining are, how close were you paying attention, what did you get out of the show each week and did it shine a spotlight on some of your own belief systems?

Namaste,

Andrew”

In closing to all that are welcome to come out and Party with us Sunday, June 10 at The Whiskey Tango for the last and finale ever “Cellblock 15 yr. Reunion” there will be a special table set up for “LOSTEE’S” so feel free to debate away!

IRON HILL BREWERY & RESTAURANT PARTNER
WITH FLYING FISH BREWING COMPANY FOR A SPECIAL
‘WELCOME TO NJ’ BREWER’S RESERVE TASTING

iron-hillflying-fish-logo-lo-res
MAPLE SHADE, NJ – On Saturday, October 24, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., the first new brewpub to open in New Jersey in 10 years, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (124 East Kings Highway, 856-273-0300) will celebrate their arrival in Maple Shade by partnering with the Garden State’s largest craft brewery, Flying Fish Brewing Company (1940 Olney Avenue, 856-489-0061), for a special Brewer’s Reserve Tasting Event. Featuring hand-crafted beers from both breweries, this event is a do-not-miss opportunity for New Jersey beer lovers.

“Here at Iron Hill, we’re flattered and proud that Flying Fish has offered to join us for this special tasting celebration,” says Iron Hill Maple Shade Head Brewer Chris LaPierre who will be joined at the event by Flying Fish Head Brewer Casey Hughes. “I can’t think of a better way to commemorate our arrival here in New Jersey than by collaborating with such talented fellow brewers to introduce residents of our new home to our beers.”

Flavorful offerings for the pay-as-you-go event will include: Iron Hill’s Heywood Tripel, 2004 Barleywine, and Totally Inappropriate; alongside Flying Fish’s Exit 4 American Tripel, Belgian Imperial Cru, and Grand Cru. These potent beers were chosen because they are prime examples of the higher alcohol, fuller flavored autumn and winter offerings at each brewery.

“At Flying Fish, we’ve always thought of ourselves as ambassadors of New Jersey beer culture,” says Hughes. “This special tasting event is our way of welcoming an exciting newcomer to the scene and letting them – and our fans – know that brewing here is only getting better.”

Flying Fish was the world’s first ‘virtual’ microbrewery, establishing an Internet presence as early as 1995. That presence helped to generate press interest and woo investors to the fledgling brewery, which would not open for business until late 1996. Today, Muller and his team oversee four full-time styles, as well as a variety of seasonal beers. Their brews have been featured at the Great British Beer Festival, Oregon Brewers Festival and Canada ’s Biere de Mondial Festival. They have won medals at the Great American Beer Festival, Real Ale Festival and the World Beer Championships, and are the only New Jersey brewery featured in Best American Beers. Flying Fish was recently named “Local Hero: Beverage Artisan of 2009” by Edible Jersey magazine.

For more information about Flying Fish, please visit them online at www.flyingfish.com or call (856) 489-0061.

STATEMENT BY KENNY GAMBLE AND LEON HUFF, LEGENDARY PRODUCERS AND ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES, ON DEATH OF DOO-WOP PIONEER JOHNNY CARTER
OF THE DELLS, PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL RECORDING ARTISTS

SOUND OF PHILADELPHIA” PIONEERS WROTE AND PRODUCED ALBUM

I SALUTE YOU FOR ONE OF THE FINEST AND LONGEST-LIVED R&B VOCAL GROUPS IN HISTORY

FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD SUNDAY, AUG. 30 IN HARVEY, IL

PHILADELPHIA – Legendary producers and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees KENNY GAMBLE and LEON HUFF, who brought Philadelphia soul music (”The Sound of Philadelphia”) to “people all over the world,” reacted this morning to the death last weekend of doo-wop pioneer Johnny Carter, who recorded with Philadelphia International Records as a member of The Dells.

Carter, whose falsetto tenor also was heard as a founding member of The Flamingos, died Friday in his hometown of Harvey, IL, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 75.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 30 at Bethlehem Temple, 20 East 147th St., Harvey, IL 60426, at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. CST., in conjunction with Holts Funeral Home, also in Harvey.

Carter joined Gamble & Huff in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted twice as a member of The Dells and The Flamingos.

“The Dells have been together 58 years, and they really go way back with us, too,” said Gamble & Huff in a joint statement. “We’ve always looked at them as some of the key innovators of Rhythm & Blues, and Johnny Carter, was especially innovative, because of his earlier tenure with the Flamingos, which also was an excellent group. We considered him to be one of the best tenors ever in Rhythm & Blues, with an absolutely superb voice. Not only us, but a lot of people will be sad about his leaving.”

After coveting The Dells for years, Gamble & Huff finally got to work with the legendary Chicago vocal group in 1992, further updating their sound on the I Salute You album. One of the finest and longest-lived R&B vocal groups in history, The Dells signed with Gamble & Huff’s Philadelphia International Records through Zoo/BMG amid a flurry of record offers, and I Salute You was issued around the time of the group’s 40th anniversary. Two of the album’s singles, “Come and Get It” and the glorious ballad “Oh My Love” landed on Billboard’s R&B charts. Other notable tracks from I Salute You included the soul searching “I’m Only a Man” and the regional hit, “SomeBody’s Gotta Move,” which later featured high-powered Philly vocalist Grace Little.

Gamble & Huff recorded another album with Carter and The Dells in the early ‘90s that remains unreleased in the Philadelphia International Records vault. As a tribute to the group, the label plans to release that album in the near future.

Carter joined The Dells in 1960 and helped the group become one of the few to span music genres, with a repertoire that included doo-wop, jazz, soul, disco and contemporary R&B and resulted in successful recordings surpassing more than four decades. Carter belted out his tenor vocals smoothly blending them with Marvin Junior’s lead baritone to mesmerize audiences equally in concert and on record. The unmatched union of Carter and Junior took The Dells’ world-renown legendary songs to a heightened crescendo, from their two #1 R&B hits, “Oh, What a Night” and “Stay in My Corner,” to other favorites like “Standing Ovation,” “There Is” and “The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind).”

Gamble & Huff’s classic hit, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” was originally supposed to be recorded by The Dells, but Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes stepped in and took it to the top of the R&B charts and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Gamble & Huff wrote over 3,000 songs with in 35 years, including R&B #1 hits, pop #1 hits, gold and platinum records, Grammy winners and BMI songwriters’ awards honorees. Featured prominently in television programs (”The Apprentice”), films (”The Nutty Professor”) and advertising spots (Verizon, Old Navy, The Gap) for more than 30 years, Gamble and Huff’s songs have entered the musical DNA of contemporary culture. In fact, one of their songs is played on the radio somewhere in the world every 13.5 minutes. With a stable core of artists led by the O’Jays, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Billy Paul, MFSB and the Three Degrees, Gamble and Huff co-founded Philadelphia International Records and created monster hits almost from the first day of its inception. Songs they have written and produced together, like “Back Stabbers,” “Love Train,” “For The Love Of Money,” “If You Don’t Know Me By Now,” “Cowboys to Girls,” “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” “Enjoy Yourself,” “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me,” “Only the Strong Survive” and “TSOP,” have received songwriters’ awards from Broadcast Music International (BMI). All told, the Gamble-Huff/PIR music machine” has generated over 100 Gold and Platinum records and over 70 #1 hits.

In 1999, four years after being inducted with Gamble into the National Academy of Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, Huff was honored with his longtime partner by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences with the Trustees Award, for his extensive body of work, both as producer and songwriter, and his contribution to the entire fabric of popular music. Last year, Huff was inducted with Gamble into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Huff also has appeared on American Idol in a show devoted to his music, and with Gamble has been inducted twice into the Dance Music Hall of Fame and the R&B Hall of Fame.
